In March, we laid out a plan detailing what Insanity Gaming would do transitioning from CS:GO to CS2.

We will continue to host servers on CS2, as CS:GO will not exist anymore (sorry).

In that previous post, I expressed skepticism about what community servers on CS2 would be like. Although it seems they will exist, much work is still required on the developers' side, across all communities—outside of Valve and places like AlliedModders—to make things accessible enough to host servers. There are several other workarounds through mapping & potential for Valve to provide us some tooling themselves. For example, we will continue to have our Surf API that's been in development, and, hopefully, things are likely to become easier, not more difficult.

The main issue is that there hasn’t been much information from Valve about running servers, despite their statement, 'Not initially, stay tuned to the CS:GO blog for information about community server availability,' quite a long time ago. As you all have seen through the way Valve treats their server browser, !ws, server tokens, anticheat and much more there is potential for it to become complicated to exist in their orbit without potential for things to go wrong.

So to reiterate our original plan set in March:

  • Focus a bit more on GMOD.
  • Launch CS:S servers intermittently.
  • Minecraft & FiveM (FiveM we already have done, Minecraft doesn't take long). You guys might enjoy either, although I think a lot would enjoy FiveM if it was populated.
  • Launch CS2 as soon as possible and work with the new Source 2 SDK to create content to move the community forward.
  • Look into S&Box, and other games along the way, even some to host as just events during a month if we're not using space on the box.

If anyone wants to contribute to IG going into CS2 and has established themselves sufficiently, feel free to ask to join any of the admin teams, media, modding, management, and so on.

It's still uncertain whether CS2 will release the way people expect it to, but we believe it's important that you have a plan from us so you know we are steering the ship correctly. Retro, Pan32, all of the surf staff, much of the HNS staff, and tech members like Christian, Cept, Nblock, Kurante and so on have been very helpful. As have all our server managers like Coldstone who's organized some cool events or Iota who's put a lot of time into Surf & has helped with others. Thank you everyone for your time and help in keeping the community free of as many assholes as possible.

We're dropping our Subscription prices by 50% if you'd like to support us going into CS2 we'd be thankful. With Surf, HNS, and the other servers we've already been waiting to upgrade as to remove any hiccups during peak times and there are sales out there right now. We don't make money doing any of this and server prices have been pretty ridiculous (likely to get more ridiculous), so cough it up for us if you have it or make us some cool stuff.
